Free Fare Routes

Everyone will be able to ride the color routes for free no matter what. Those with a fare card will be able to ride any of the funicular inclines for free. The free fare routes are as follows:

  • Blue – Downtown
  • Gold – Golden Triangle

Blue – Downtown

This route is a subway line. Right now, a fare cheater can board a subway while in Downtown/Northside, and simply ride the route beyond the free fare zone without paying for their fare. Under my system, only color routes will be free even if other routes uses those stations/stops. This will mean a subway serving the South Hills will be a paid fare even if you were to ride it in the free fare zone. The Blue – Downtown will serve between Allegheny Station, and First Avenue. The route will go beyond First Avenue to loop at South Hills Junction. The Blue – Downtown will not pick up passengers at Station Square, or South Hills Junction.

Gold – Golden Triangle

This is actually a loop route which means the start position, and end position is the same stop. The Gold – Golden Triangle will start at Liberty and Grant. The Gold – Golden Triangle will turn onto Grant, and serve Grant until reaching 5th Avenue. The Gold – Golden Triangle will turn on 5th, and serve 5th until reaching Liberty Avenue where the Gold – Golden Triangle will turn on Liberty, and go until turning again on Grant Street. This route will have additional stops on Fifth Avenue to serve the role of the free zone route, especially for those that are disabled or elderly. Because the loop is a small route, there will only be 1-2 of such buses.
