The mobile app will work with any Android, or iOS phone. While I am not a fan of the mobile app, I do see some value for it, especially for those that are just visiting Pittsburgh. The mobile app will not support child cards, or disabled adults. This system is to use the full fare paying riders. The mobile app requires an internet connection, and you are responsible for having data services on your device.
The app used will generate a QR code?, and will be ideal for visiting riders, and those that don’t frequent the bus system enough to warrant a fare card. There is a machine that sits between the front doors, and fare box. You will scan the QR code in that machine, and funds are deducted. You can also opt to pay for a pass with your payment, and in which case, you would have unlimited rides for the duration of the pass.
